HISTORY Social Communications Centre is a reminder that the Church has retained her character in the field of communications.The Church started her journey from the Maha Gedara—SLBC The atmosphere in the early days were not so friendly.We were accomdated but we were restricted to the periphery.The Endurence,the silence of those matured priests with their talents could not sideline them.They prospered.Fr.Philip Dissanake,Fr.DJ Anthony,,Dominic Anandappa they were Oblate priests.Bishop Edmund Peiris,Fr.Maceline Jayakody,Though he was of the Oblate breed he had certain qualities that surpassed common characterFr.Noel Croos another oblate was a star par excellance.There comes a line u-p of Diocesan clergy. Starting from Fr.Ignatius Perera,Fr.Don Peter,Fr.Don Sylvester later Bishop Sylvester,Fr.Dominic Pathirana,Fr.Oswald Gomis later Bishop Gomis,Fr.Joe Neththesinghe a great broadcaster who could even challenge a BBC newscaster.The shy young priest who he was,but so talented he won a name in the broadcasters’ circles.Mgr.Moses Perera giant of a priest who caved out a special place place with his Thehili Gee.Fr.Moses Perera Jr.as we are accustomed to call him by Fr.Muthusisila who would have composed four digit no of Catholic hymns and songs .Then appears K.Francis a simple soul but a daring lay Catholic There were certain from within and without.If not for his bold attitudes we would have been still under the servitude.He paved the way open for Christians to walk in to the studios with heads straight.Francis Madiwala was yet another priest who excelled in his broadcasting .With his appearance in the scene.another line up of young broadcasters,starting from the undersigned Fr.Benedict Joseph,Fr.Paul Fernando,Fr.Cyril Gamini,and Fr.Sriyananda.I thought I would stop there leaving the stage for the budding broadcasters.
